What exactly does the checker scan?

It loads the page you paste, extracts every <a href> link on it, and requests each one to read its HTTP status. Both internal and external links are checked.

Does it crawl my whole site?

No — it checks one page at a time, up to 150 links on that page. Run it on your highest-traffic pages first, then work down your sitemap.

Why does a link show as broken when it works in my browser?

Some sites block automated requests or rate-limit them, which returns a 403 or a timeout. Always open a flagged link once before treating it as genuinely dead.

What counts as broken?

Any link returning a 4xx or 5xx status, or one that times out or can't be reached at all. Redirects that end in a 2xx response are reported as fine.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no login, no credit card, and no email gate. You can optionally have the report emailed to you, but that is entirely skippable.
