How to measure whether your product demo is working

A demo that nobody finishes is a landing-page decoration. These are the numbers to watch.

Short answer

Track completion rate, the step where viewers drop off, and how many viewers sign up afterwards — then cut or rewrite the drop-off step.

Steps

  1. 1Watch completion rateUnder 50% usually means the demo is too long or the first step does not promise a payoff.
  2. 2Find the drop-off stepOne step almost always causes the bulk of exits. Rewrite or delete it.
  3. 3Tie views to signupsCompare demo views to signups from the same page to see whether the demo is doing sales work.
  4. 4Iterate weeklyRe-record the weak step, republish on the same link, and compare the next week's numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to measure demo performance?
No. The InstaDemo sandbox at /demo lets you paste a URL, click through the flow, and preview the finished interactive demo without creating an account. You sign up only when you want to save, edit, or share it.
How long does this take?
Most people finish in about three minutes: paste the page URL, click the steps in order, review the AI-drafted tooltip copy, then publish or embed the link.
What about login-protected pages?
Public pages can be cloned directly from a URL. For dashboards and other signed-in screens, use the InstaDemo Chrome extension to record inside your own authenticated session.

Try it yourself in three minutes

Reading about demos is slower than building one. Paste your product URL and have a clickable demo in about three minutes — no account required.
